History
Kurnool Medical College (KMC) & Government General Hospital (GGH) are located in Kurnool and were established in 1956. It serves the people of Rayalseema in the state of Andhra Pradesh, part of Telangana and Karnataka regions, catering to the health needs of a population of around 20 000 000. It is one of the oldest medical colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It started with 50 MBBS seats and now has 250 seats. It is an institution established for teaching, research, and patient care in the area of health. It spreads over 100 acres and has a 1500 bed facility. The institution houses one administrative block, three medical college blocks, one nursing college, 15 hospital blocks, three accessory services buildings, and 6 residential complexes. All broad types of medical, nursing, and allied health science courses covering all disciplines in healthcare from basic to super specialty training are conducted.
Profile
The oncology centre is a 50 bed facility that treats all types of solid malignancies and pediatric malignancies. The centre is equipped with trained surgeons, radiation oncologists, and clinical oncologists. The centre is equipped with operation theatres, radiotherapy equipment, and a chemotherapy daycare facility. It is a part of a 1500 bed hospital, which is KMC & GGH. The oncology unit will soon expand to a State Cancer centre for the state of Andhra Pradesh, India with a proposed 120 bed state of art facilities. The Department of Radiotherapy has grown into a full-fledged cancer centre since the installation of the radiotherapy machine in 1985.
Radiation Oncology offers services to around 300 new cancer patients and around 4000 patients on follow-up every year. The availability of adequate experts in the field of radiation oncology and medical radiation physics and the massive patient inflow paved way for delivering quality care to patients. The aim of the department is to deliver the best possible care to patients with all the available resources.

Palliative and Supportive Care
The Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology, Government General Hospital Kurnool established pain and palliative care centre in May 2019 in collaboration with pain relief and palliative care society (PRPCS), Hyderabad. The unit is an 8 bed facility now planning to upgrade to a 15 bed facility. We have one trained palliative care physician and 5 nurses who are trained in palliative care along with 5 helper staff and one driver for home care visits.
