2024 ESMO Society Award Nominations

The nomination process for the 2024 ESMO Society Awards is now open

Award lectures will be delivered at the ESMO Congress 2024, 13-17 September.

Nomination procedure

Nominations may be made by any ESMO member (except undergraduate medical or science student members). Candidates may not nominate themselves. Fields marked with an * are mandatory - please complete the form and click on “Submit Form”. Deadline: 8 April 2024.

Award lectures will be delivered on 13 September at the ESMO Congress 2024.

Candidate eligibility criteria

ESMO Award

  • Be an individual (institutions and organisations are not eligible) who has contributed continuously by outstanding scientific contributions to the development of understanding malignancies and/or their treatment
  • Be an ESMO member
  • Be an oncology professional, medical or clinical oncologist
  • Have not previously received the ESMO Award
  • Have not received any other Award from ESMO within the last five (5) years
  • Not be a current or recent (last two years) member of either the ESMO Executive Board, ESMO Council or the ESMO Nomination Committee

ESMO Award for Translational Research

  • Be an individual (institutions and organisations are not eligible) who has made an impact in cancer science throughout their career and are recognised for their outstanding contribution to translational medicine, which has led to successful application in the clinic.
  • Have published research results in highly cited peer-reviewed journals
  • Be an oncology professional, medical or clinical oncologist
  • Be an ESMO member
  • Have not previously received the ESMO Award for Translational Research (the previous Hamilton Fairley Award)
  • Have not received any other Award from ESMO within the last five (5) years
  • Not be a current or recent (last two years) member of either the ESMO Executive BoardESMO Council or the ESMO Nomination Committee

ESMO Women for Oncology Award

  • Be an individual, recognised institution or organisation that has made a significant contribution to supporting the career development of women working in oncology by promoting a merit-based working environment, fostering an environment for equality, implementing mentoring programmes or by facilitating personal-professional life balance.
  • Be an ESMO member (applies when nominating individuals)
  • Be an oncology professional from across the academic, research or clinical oncology environment (applies when nominating individuals)
  • Have not previously received the ESMO Women for Oncology Award
  • Have not received any other Award from ESMO within the last five (5) years
  • Not be a current or recent (last two years) member of either the ESMO Executive BoardESMO Council or the ESMO Nomination Committee

ESMO Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Be an internationally recognised individual, team or organisation in any relevant discipline in the field of oncology
  • Demonstrate an affiliation to a major academic or cancer research / treatment institution(s)
  • Possess an international reputation and demonstrated lifetime commitment to clinical cancer research and/or education
  • Be renowned for their outstanding achievements carried out in clinical cancer research and/or education
  • Have published results on cancer research topics in highly cited peer-reviewed journals
  • Have not previously received the ESMO Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Have not received any other Award from ESMO within the last five (5) years
  • Not be a current or recent (last two years) member of either the ESMO Executive BoardESMO Council or the ESMO Nomination Committee
