Job Description

The International Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Database Consortium (IMDC), led by Prof. Daniel Heng is seeking applications for a genitourinary oncology and real-world outcomes clinical and research fellowship.

Previous fellows have graduated to staff attending medical oncologist roles at leading cancer centres across Canada and internationally. Several have received ASCO merit awards and had oral presentations at major meetings, concurrent with publications in high impact journals including JAMA Oncology and European Urology.

We are fortunate to be able to offer a stimulating but manageable clinical load (<=4 clinics / week and minimal on-call) and the world's largest real world kidney cancer database to interrogate. Calgary is the world's 7th most liveable city, and the Rocky Mountains are at your doorstep, 1 hour away from the city.

These 1-2 year fellowships will provide an opportunity to gain clinical expertise at a high-volume centre, whilst accelerating research output. The Division of Medical Oncology has close collaborations with the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute for candidates interested in translational research activities.

About the institute

Clinical exposure is currently delivered at the Tom Baker Cancer Center, the tertiary referral centre and the main cancer treatment, research and education facility for southern Alberta. Approximately 7,000 new patients are seen each year at the Centre. In 2024 services will be transferred to the Arthur JE Child Cancer Centre, which will be the largest freestanding cancer centre in Canada. This 127,000m2 facility will provide cutting edge cancer care, with integrated research laboratories and outstanding opportunities for inter-disciplinary collaboration via dedicated wet and dry lab research space and comprehensive cancer care facilities.

Training Experience Required

Ideally completion of medical oncology specialist training (CCT/Fellowship of a Royal College/equivalent). However a motivated current medical oncology trainee seeking an out of programme placement will be considered.
