Shah Zeb Khan

Bannu Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Oncology & Radiotherapy

Shah Zeb Khan is a clinical oncologist practicing in Pakistan.  He is currently employed at Bannu Institute of Nuclear Medicine Oncology & Radiotherapy (BINOR), in a rural area of the country. His principal interests reflect the major challenges in cancer care of his country, namely low awareness for cancer in primary health care and at the patient’s level.

As a clinical oncologist, the expertise of Dr Shah is in radiation and medical oncology, particularly for the multi-modal treatments like concomitant chemoradiotherapy. His major efforts are now invested in spreading the culture of multidisciplinary care – working with the chairs of departments to create preferential pathways for the critical therapeutic decisions of cancer patients and piloting a proposal on breast cancer care. His future aim is to do a fellowship in Diagnostic Radiology (cancer imaging) or Advanced Radiotherapy techniques.

As a voice from low-middle income countries (LMICs), Dr Shah has more recently founded a spontaneous cooperative group of independent oncologists interested in global oncology, including many providers from LMICs, to share ideas and build consensus. In this context, Dr Shah leads the educational project of ONCOLLEGE, which involves clinical case discussion in LMICs, to suggest references and educational material from literature to support resource-adapted clinical guidance for providers in under-served areas.

Dr Shah strongly believes that the way to achieve quality care in LMICs passes through education and research strengthening in the context of national, international, and global partnerships for education and training, including NGOs, cancer societies and public-private partnerships. He is passionately committed to assuring cure and care for cancer patients, and his motto is: “Improving cancer care and research globally by providing opportunities to oncologists and discussing the challenges faced by them”.

Dr Shah is a member of ESMO and of the ESMO Global Policy Committee.
