Roger Henriksson

Dr. Roger Henriksson, MD, PhD, was appointed Head of the Department of Oncology ath the (Radiumhemmet), Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden on September 1, 2009.

He is also one of the deputy chairmen for a common effort in cancer research (StratCan) at the Karolinska Institute and University Hospital. He has been on his chair as Professor of Experimental Oncology since 1995, and as a Chief Physician from 1992 in oncology and radiotherapy, North Sweden University Hospital, Umeå. At present he is an advisor for the Swedish government in rehabilitation medicine in cancer and scientific advisor for the National Board of Health and Wellfare.

He was previously head/deputy head of the department of Oncology at the University in Umeå 1994 – 2009 and Operating and Managing Director of the Cancer Research Unit since its establishment 1987, responsible at the clinic of the division of Neuro-Oncology, lung cancer and malignant melanoma 1995 - 2009.

Dr. Roger Henriksson has been a board member of the University and medical faculty and served as board member/deputy Chairman of the Swedish Society of Oncology from 1996 – 2001, and was then  elected as the chairman from January 2010. He also held a position from 2000-2008 part time as Senior Medical Advisor AstraZeneca Sweden and Europe in Oncology.

Dr. Henriksson has published more than 290 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals according to Pub Med and he is the editor/author of numerous oncology chapters in professional medical textbooks. He has received several awards, grants and prices for his research and his dedicated work for patient advocacy groups.

Dr. Roger Henriksson’s main research is within the field of clinical and experimental oncology with a focus on brain tumours and lung cancer.
