Elisabeth de Vries

Prof. Dr. E.G. Elisabeth de Vries, MD, PhD is Professor of Medical Oncology at the University Medical Centre Groningen, Groningen, the Netherlands. She is involved in patient care, teaching, and research. Her research lines are aimed at increasing the sensitivity of tumours to anticancer drugs, and she uses imaging techniques to support this.
Apart from laboratory studies, she performs and coordinates clinical trials. She has received numerous grants, including grants from the Dutch Cancer Society, EU, and is PI of a CTMM (Centre for Translational and Molecular Medicine) MAMMOTH grant and an ERC advanced investigator grant OnQview. She has supervised over 95 PhD students and published over 698 PubMed listed papers. She is currently Chairperson of the Committee for the new RECIST 2.0 version on behalf of the EORTC.
In 2002, she was appointed as a member of the Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). She received the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) award in 2009. She is Fellow of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences and member of the Governing Body European Academy of Cancer Sciences since 2010. She was awarded a Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences professorship in 2011.
At ESMO, she is the Chair of the ESMO Magnitude of Clinical Benefit Scale Working Group and a member of the ESMO Guidelines Steering Committee. From 2009 to 2010 Prof de Vries was a member of the ESMO Nominating Committee and served on the ESMO Executive Board from 2012 to 2013.
