ESO-ESMO-RCE Clinical Update on Rare Adult Solid Cancers 2017

Aiming to provide the community of clinical oncologists specialising in adult solid tumours with a regular update of recent advances
Start date
02 Dec 2017
End date
04 Dec 2017
Milan, Italy

Background information

Rare cancers make up as many as one fifth of all new cancer cases. Paediatric cancers and rare haematological neoplasms are often covered by dedicated educational events while rare adult solid cancers are hardly grouped together as a collective group of neoplasms. This ESO-ESMO-RCE joint event is aimed at dealing with them on an annual basis, to provide the community of clinical oncologists specialising in these tumours with a regular update of recent advances in this specific area. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the educational coverage of a group of cancers which may be neglected in spite of their collective incidence.

Any educational effort in the rare cancer area makes little sense if disconnected from a networking environment. With this in mind, this event was the first offered to clinical oncologists involved in existing networks covering adult solid rare cancers, with a special attention to European Reference Networks due to be created within the EU. Moreover, it is part of the educational programme of the University of Milan's European Postgraduate Master Course on Rare Adult Solid Cancers, organised in collaboration with ESO.
