New ESMO Public Policy Committee (PPC) holds kick-off meeting

The recently launched Public Policy Committee (PPC), with members from Peru through to Australia and representing all major cancer types, of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) held its first meeting virtually on 5 June 2023.
05 Jun 2023

The PPC will serve as ESMO’s primary body dealing with public policy. Chaired by ESMO’s Director of Public Policy - Jean-Yves Blay - the PPC will engage with policy-makers from across the world on issues impacting the practice and profession of medical oncology, whilst aiming to ensure that the input of oncology specialists is reflected in health policies at the national, regional, and global levels.

The PPC will lead ESMO’s engagement with key international actors in the health space, including the World Health Organization (WHO), International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), European Union (EU), and European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Following the approval of the Committee’s Terms of Reference, PPC members took stock of the main ongoing policy developments impacting the oncology field and exchanged views on the workstreams that are to be prioritized in the coming months. A next meeting is scheduled to take place at the ESMO Congress 2023 in Madrid.
