2023 Heine H. Hansen Award Recipient Announced

07 Mar 2023

The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) have announced today that the 2023 Heine H. Hansen Award is conferred on Paul Baas for his outstanding contribution to thoracic oncology research.

Baas’ career in lung cancer research spans more than 30 years and includes new treatment applications and studies in lung cancer and mesothelioma. He was involved in the implementation of immuno-oncology therapy in both lung cancer and mesothelioma, including translational phase 2 studies. His current plans encompass ongoing translational research activities, focus on further developments of new treatments and support for patient advocacy groups, both in The Netherlands and in less developed parts of the world.

Baas is Professor of Thoracic Oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), co-founder of the European Thoracic Oncology Platform (ETOP) and Deputy Editor of the journal Lung Cancer.

He will deliver his award lecture on Wednesday, 29 March at ELCC 2023.
