The 2018 ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines on Delirium in adult cancer patients are based on results from recent studies and analyses. Prompt diagnosis of delirium and treatment of its precipitant causes may enable reversal of many episodes. Symptomatic management of delirium should focus primarily on non-pharmacological strategies along with psychological support for patients and families; use of antipsychotics and benzodiazepines should be minimised and judiciously reserved for failure of non-pharmacological intervention.
