History
Founded in 2000, the Polo Oncologico Provinciale of “SS Trinità” Hospital in Sora is a network consisting of hospital based and ambulatory institutions for the comprehensive care of cancer and patients with palliative treatment, offering in-patient and ambulatory care for the rural district of Frosinone with a population of about 500,000, and neighbouring several regions in the Centre of Italy (distance from Rome 120 km, Naples 130 km, L’Aquila 90 km).

The S.S. Trinità Hospital is located in the centre of the town Sora. The Hospital offers comprehensive care in all medical specialities useful for diagnosis and treatment of neoplastic diseases. Main Departments are: Medical Oncology, Radiotherapy, Oncologic Surgery, Gynaecology, Oculist, Otolaryngology, Urologic and Orthopaedic, Long-term care, Intensive Care Unit, Service of Nutrition and other Services (clinical and microbiology Laboratories, Pathologist, Radiology and Nuclear Medicine).
Moreover an Emergency Department is open 24hours/7 days.
The S.S. Trinità Hospital is also a teaching hospital, providing University courses on behalf of the Universities of Rome and L’Aquila.
Our Medical Oncology Unit provides assistance to almost 1,000 new cancer patients a year, through four Hospitals located in the Province of Frosinone: the “SS Trinità” Hospital of Sora, the “Fabrizio Spaziani” Hospital of Frosinone, the “Santa Scolastica” Hospital of Cassino. The Cancer Centre offers 14 beds for inpatients recovery, 9 ambulatories and 35 places for treatment in Day-Hospital.
Our staff is composed by medical oncologists, nurses, physiotherapists, nutritionists and volunteers.
Specialities
The “mission” of our Medical Oncology Unit is the reception and care of patients from the diagnosis of cancer to cure or death. The decision-making procedure, symptoms’ control and side-effects of the treatments, as well as the support to relatives and families, are taken into account and managed in every phase of the illness, sharing an integrated clinical-therapeutic pathway amongst different specialists.
Furthermore, a Radiation Therapy service has been available since 2010 for palliative and curative treatment.
Palliative and Supportive Care
Symptoms’ control and quality of life of the oncological patients, along with the control of neoplastic illness, represent crucial goals in the management of our patients.
Integration between symptoms’ cure and neoplasia’s cure is provided in every phase of the patient’s illness through a patient-oriented working strategy, a multidisciplinary approach and a complete symptoms’ evaluation.
Collaboration of care across disciplines is supported through weekly formal interdisciplinary palliative care meetings, where physicians of various disciplines (palliative care, medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, psychiatry) meet to discuss case management.
The accomplishment of home-care pathways, in order to assure the best care to our patients, is among the main goals of our centre.
Thanks to the close collaboration with the General Practitioners, supportive home care has been optimised, through an ongoing exchange of information among our team, the General Practitioner, the patient and his/her family.
