Women for Oncology Ireland (W4OIE)

About

The Women for Oncology Ireland group was initiated for 3 general purposes:

  • to support and mentor young female oncologists in Ireland
  • to highlight and improve the national resources available for childcare, flexible working, oncology training, etcetera
  • to use the group as a potential research platform to support quality improvement in addition to collaborating with international research projects and groups in this field

Governing bodies and members

The W4OIE are a branch of the Irish Society of Medical Oncology (ISMO).

Membership: 37 members including consultants and oncology trainees based in Ireland

Activities

W4OIE is in the process of developing a national mentorship programme for young female oncologists to avail of during their training in Ireland and beyond. They are also developing a national survey to better understand the needs and gaps in resources, infrastructure and job specifications to better support Irish doctors as regards childcare, flexible training, career progression, parental leave and other challenges.
