Professor Uwe Liebert is the Director and Chairman of the Institute of Virology at Leipzig University, Germany.  He carried out his undergraduate studies at the Universities of Manchester, Cornell and Dusseldorf and achieved his Board certification in microbiology in 1988 at Queen’s University, Belfast.  He then received further qualifications in epidemiology of infectious diseases, and clinical and molecular virology.  In 1988 he joined the University of Würzburg as a Senior Researcher and then in 1995 moved to Leipzig University where he became Professor and Chair of Virology until commencing his current role in October 2020.
