Prof. Michalis Karamouzis is currently Assistant Professor at the Medical School of the University of Athens, Greece. He is a medical oncologist specialised in treating patients with gastrointestinal cancers, breast cancers and aerodigestive carcinomas. He set up a Molecular Oncology Unit, where he has been working on cell tissue cultures with human breast cancer cell lines, running a strong research programme and leading a highly skilled and competent research group, including collaborations with well-established cancer research scientists. His lab has developed advanced research in the proximity ligation assay technique that can evaluate dimerisation of two proteins as well as enhance the signal of low abundant proteins in situ. At present, personnel working in the lab include a Post Doc as lab manager and researcher and many PhD students.

Prof. Karamouzis has participated in numerous national and international conferences and round tables. He has authored more than 80 publications in international peer-reviewed journals indexed in SCI (total sum of impact factor: 531.829, mean impact factor: 6.647). His publications have achieved until now more than 1500 citations. The average citation per year is 125 and the H-index is 21.

Prof. Karamouzis has also served as a reviewer for many peer-reviewed international journals, including Annals of Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Breast Cancer Research, European Journal of Cancer, Lancet Oncology, Cancer and Metastasis Review, and as evaluator for several scientific project proposals, both at national and international level.

Prof. Karamouzis has been a member of ESMO since January 2004. In 2011 and 2012 he chaired the ESMO Young Oncologists Committee and has been a member of the Educational Publications Working Group. Currently he holds positions in various ESMO committees and groups, such as the ESMO Public Policy Committee and the ESMO Practising Oncologists Working Group.
