Dr. Eniu is a specialist in medical oncology and Chief Physician at the Hôpital Riviera-Chablais in Rennaz, Switzerland. Prior to his current role, he practiced as a senior physician in oncology at the Department of Breast Cancers of the Ion Chiricuta Institute in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where he was the coordinator of the Medical Oncology Division and head of the day unit.

He was confirmed as medical oncologist in 1999, and in addition he passed the ESMO examination in 2000, followed by recertification in 2006 and 2012. In 2007, he obtained a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the University of Medicine “Iuliu Hatieganu” in Cluj-Napoca.

Dr. Eniu has an extensive experience from visits abroad, as he was awarded several scholarships that allowed him to learn and practice medical oncology in other countries: a residency at the Henri Becquerel Cancer Centre in Rouen, France in 1997 and an in-depth specialisation in oncology at the Medical University in Rouen in 2000. On several occasions, he has been a visiting clinician in the USA, at the University of Texas, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and he was awarded a Mayo Foundation Visiting Clinician Scholarship at the Mayo Breast Cancer Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He did a fellowship at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, and during his training, he also spent some time as visiting researcher in the Netherlands and Spain.

As an active member of both national (SRRO) and international (ESMO and ASCO) societies, Alexandru Eniu held positions in various committees, e.g. the ESMO Emerging Countries Committee (chair position 2012-2014) and ASCO International Affairs Committee. He is the former chair and a current member of the ESMO Global Policy Committee and has also served as a member of ESMO's Executive Board. Furthermore, he is a member of the editorial board of several oncology journals and the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Radiotherapy and Medical Oncology (English language journal of the Romanian Society of Radiotherapy and Medial Oncology)

He participated in the process of developing national guidelines for the management of cancer patients. His continuous search for better ways of delivering care to breast cancer patients made him be part of the Breast Health Global Initiative since 2002, serving as the Co-Chair of the Treatment and Allocation of resources Panel.

In addition to clinical practice devoted to the care of breast cancer patients, Alexandru Eniu has been involved in numerous international phase III and II clinical studies (over 50 in total) and has written two book chapters and 20 articles in international peer reviewed journals. In addition he has delivered talks on numerous occasions in Europe and the USA both as invited speaker and with original papers within his speciality breast cancer.
