History

The Centre for Cancer at Kokilaben Hospital commenced on 26th January 2009. To start with, the centre was manned by 1 Medical Oncologist, 5 Surgical Oncologists, 1 Radiation Oncologist, 1 Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, 1 Pathologist & 1 Nuclear Medicine Consultant. The Chemotherapy Unit had 12 beds & The Radiation Oncology department started with 1 Machine. The Centre has since expanded in personnel, infrastructure and technology. 3 Medical Oncologists, 1 Paediatric Oncologist, 1 Clinical Haematologist, 10 Surgical Oncologists, 2 Radiation Oncologists, 2 Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, 3 Pathologists and 2 Nuclear Medicine Specialists form the Clinical staff. The Chemotherapy Daycare has grown to 40 beds. We have 3 Radiation machines and a Da Vinci Robotic Surgery system. 

Profile

The Centre sees 25,000 patients on an outpatient basis annually. 6500 chemotherapy sessions are delivered annually and 3500 surgeries are performed annually. The Radiation Oncology service delivers 25,000 sessions of Radiation Therapy annually. The Chemotherapy is delivered by specialist nurses. Targeted Chemotherapy & Hormonal Therapy is delivered here. The Radiation Oncology department has Trilogy, Novalis Tx & Edge Linear Accelerators capable of delivering high end Radiotherapy like IGRT & IMRT and performing Radio surgeries.

Specialities

The Centre has subspecialists in areas of Paediatric Oncology, Head & Neck Oncosurgery, Breast Oncology, Thoracic Oncosurgery, HPB Oncosurgery, Colorectal Oncology, Uro Oncology, Gynaecologic Oncology & Musculoskeletal Oncology. There are 2 Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons performing free flap surgeries for cosmesis post oncosurgeries. 

Palliative and Supportive Care

The centre has a fully functioning pain and palliative care centre since 5 years. We are part of the National palliative care program and are in the process of upgrading our services in palliative care, and we have 2 pain and palliative care specialists, nurses and counselors. The pain and palliative care services actively participate in care of the cancer patient, education, awareness and advocacy programs.
