History

As-Salam International Hospital is part of the Alameda Healthcare group which is a network of various healthcare facilities all over Egypt. The hospital opened its doors in 1982 to meet the needs of patients and serve the community with a total of 300 beds over 5,200 square meters.

As-Salam International Hospital is one of the largest tertiary care hospitals in Egypt applying international standards, including those for high risk and vulnerable oncology patients, equipped with the latest technologies and well-trained professional staff. The hospital has been Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited since 2015 with various clinical programs certified by JCI.

As-Salam International Hospital takes all aspects of safety seriously, primarily patient safety, as well as environmental, facility and food safety, ensuring a safe and secure patient centred culture is provided for all patients.

Profile

As-Salam Oncology Department was founded in 1984 and has grown throughout the years to become a comprehensive centre that is supported by a 300 bed JCI accredited tertiary care hospital.

The oncology team consists of forty certified physicians from different disciplines covering all services required for the care of cancer patients, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, oncosurgery, nutrition, pain management, and psychiatry. This is in addition to four clinical pharmacists and seven nurses, all of which are integrated using a multidisciplinary approach to provide patient centred care through the following:

  • Emergency department functioning 24/7 and supported by an on-call oncologist and palliative care physician.
  • Outpatient clinic covering all specialties daily with available clinics for medical oncology, radiotherapy, interventional oncology, surgical oncology, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, and palliative care services including pain management, psycho-oncology and nutrition.
  • Early detection and screening unit for routine check-ups including breast and GIT malignancy screening.
  • Day-care chemotherapy unit equipped with all the required facilities for safe preparation and accurate delivery of chemotherapy by highly trained specialized nurses and clinical pharmacists.
  • Inpatient unit supervised by oncology specialists and nurses with all the required facilities including computed tomography, MRI, 24/7 clinical laboratory, intensive care unit, kidney dialysis, and physiotherapy.
  • A clinical pharmacy which participates in care planning through raising the standard of care of systemic treatment, including chemo, immune, and targeted therapies, prepared under complete aseptic conditions through the most advanced version safety cabinet class II B.
  • True Beam radiotherapy machine with the most up to date technology.
  • Physiotherapy department to ensure proper rehabilitation for cancer patients.

Palliative care and psycho- oncology are available 24/7 through the emergency department, all oncology patients are screened in their initial visit for palliative, psychological and nutritional needs to ensure an individualized multidisciplinary care plan is prepared for each patient.
As-Salam International Hospital provides support to families and relatives of patients whenever it is needed through all phases of care.
