Exploratory Study on Gender-related Issues in the Asian Region

In 2020, ESMO W4O launched exploratory research designed to understand gender-related issues encountered by female oncologists in Asia.

Although the method of previous surveys acts as a blueprint, this study is localised in its investigation to better reflect local situations.

The pilot phase consists of qualitative research and is currently being run in Hong Kong.

Objectives of the Study

The aim of the project is to explore the role of unconscious bias on gender parity in oncology, and to understand gender-related barriers and challenges female oncologists in Asia face in advancing their career.

The ultimate objective is to identify gender-related topics relevant to the region, which will inform the development of a survey tailored to regional needs. It will help select topics and appropriate formats for our activities at the ESMO Asia Congress.
