General Description

The Royal Marsden NHS Trust, Sutton, Surrey and Fulham Road, London is a postgraduate teaching hospital concerned with diagnosis, treatment and study of patients with cancer. It has a close association with the Institute of Cancer Research which is leading in basic research into the nature and treatment of cancer. Together the two campuses constitute one of the largest concentrations of clinical cancer research in Europe. The medical work of the hospital is organized into multidisciplinary disease oriented units.

Expertise

Professor Stephen Johnston is Head of the Breast Unit and Professor Nicholas Turner, Dr Alistair Ring, Dr Marina Parton, Dr Sophie McGrath, Dr Emma Kipps, Dr Alicia Okines, Dr Stephen Sammut and Dr Jill Noble are Consultant Medical Oncologists on the Unit. We work very closely with our clinical oncology, surgical, radiology and genetics colleagues to provide comprehensive care. Dr Parton and Dr McGrath also have responsibilities at nearby Kingston Hospital where the Breast Unit is closely integrated with our own. Professor Turner and Dr Sammut are clinical academics working at the Royal Marsden and at the Institute of Cancer Research.

The rest of the Unit consists of 3 Medical Oncology Specialist Registrars, 4-5 Clinical Research Fellows, 5 Research Nurses and a team of Clinical Trial co-ordinators/ Data Managers. The Breast Unit has a busy clinical practice and its main research interests are novel therapies, circulating tumour DNA neoadjuvant therapy and molecular markers.

Facilities

Large outpatient clinics and inpatient beds, backed up by full range of diagnostic and imaging facilities. Strong Research links with scientists in the Institute of Cancer Research.
