ESMO advocates for equal access to quality treatment and for cancer prevention.

ESMO believes that sustainability is a key element of cancer care. Oncologists and other decision-makers need to be supported with the highest standards of guidance to sustain the costs of cancer care while offering the most appropriate treatment to cancer patients, regardless of where they live, where they are from, whether they can afford it.

Guided by the principle of sustainable cancer care, over the years ESMO has been advocating for equal access to quality treatment and for cancer prevention, as set out by its Vision 2020.

For example, the ESMO-Magnitude of Clinical Benefit Scale, which allows doctors, payers and policy-makers globally to make informed decisions about cancer medicines, based on their actual clinical benefit, is a key tool in securing access to cancer care through sustainable models of both prevention and treatment.
