Dr. Hassan Shahryar is a consultant in medical oncology and haematology at the Sheikh Shakbout Medical City (SSMC) in partnership with Mayo Clinic and an adjunct clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He is Diplomate American Board of Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Medical Oncology and Haematology. He obtained undergraduate medical education from Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan and post-graduate residency and fellowship training in Internal Medicine, Haematology and Medical Oncology from Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Pennsylvania, USA. He also completed fellowship training in Geriatrics from the University of Rochester, New York. He was selected to the Futures Scholar Program by the American Medical Directors Association (AMDA) in 2009. He has served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Penn State University from 2012 till 2015 and Division Chief of Medical Oncology at Jeanes Hospital in 2016 prior to returning to Pakistan in 2017. He worked at the largest tertiary care cancer centre, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Center, Lahore, Pakistan, as the Head of Medical Oncology Department. He is a Supervisor of the Medical Oncology post graduate training program by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. In his current role he remains involved in the postgraduate and undergraduate education and serves as the course director for haematology and oncology electives for medical students at SSMC.

Dr. Shahryar practices evidence-based community oncology with a special interest in lung and breast tumours. His research interests are diverse and focus on outcomes research in oncology from low-middle incomes countries using real world evidence, cost utility and budget impact analysis, public policy issues such as access to essential cancer medicines and palliative medicines, cancer groundshot program, sustainability of healthcare systems, cancer guideline adaptations, evidence-based medicine and geriatric oncology.

Dr. Shahryar is well published in peer reviewed international journals and is a speaker at national and regional cancer conferences. He was a participant of the ESMO Leaders Generation Programme Asia 2022 and is currently a member of the ESMO Leadership Development Committee.
