Enrico Franceschi, MD, is a medical oncologist, Chairman of the Nervous System Medical Oncology Department of IRCCS Istituto delle Scienze Neurologiche di Bologna-AUSL Bologna, Italy, since 2022.
He received the fellowship in Medical Oncology from the University of Bologna. During the fellowship and after the completion of clinical education, Dr Franceschi specialized in primary and metastatic CNS tumours.
His main fields of interest are biomarkers discovery and novel approaches to brain tumours, rare and ultrarare CNS tumours and survivorship of patients with CNS tumours.
Since 2022 he has been responsible for Institutional clinical and translational research in the context of “Neurosurgery, Neuro-Oncology, Oncological neuropathology”.
Dr Franceschi is member of the Steering Committee of the European Reference Network for the treatment of rare adult tumours (EURACAN); co-coordinator of the EURACAN brain tumour domain and EURACAN subdomain leader for adult medulloblastomas. He is also leader of the EURACAN Work Package 10 of Multinational / Multilevel collaborations.
He is member of the Board of Directors of the National Virtual Institutes (IVN) in Neuro-oncology of the IRCCS neuroscience and neurorehabilitation network (RIN); he is member of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and Coordinator of the ESMO Faculty Group for Central Nervous System (CNS) Tumours.
He is also the national coordinator of the guidelines for brain tumours of the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM).
He is principal investigator of multiple experimental studies in the field of brain tumours.
Dr Franceschi is author and co-author of over 190 publications in international scientific journals, as well as books chapters, in the context of brain tumours.
He is senior editor of CNS Oncology and member of the editorial board of several journals, such as Advances in Therapy, Oncology and Therapy, Frontiers in Oncology, section Neuro-Oncology and Neurosurgical Oncology, Annals of Oncology Research, Frontiers in Neurology.
