Emmanouil Saloustros MD, D(Med)Sc was born in Athens, Greece, in 1975. He obtained his Medical Degree (MD) from the University of Thessaly in 2000 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in medical oncology at the University Hospital of Heraklion (2010).

He conducted post-graduate research at the Section on Endocrinology & Genetics of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), focusing on heritable disorders that predispose to cancer, mouse models of human tumours and related issues.

In 2013 he obtained his doctoral degree in cancer biology from the University of Crete School of Medicine.

For six years (2012-2018) Dr Saloustros has served as consultant of medical oncology at the General hospital of Heraklion ‘Venizelio’ and established the hereditary cancer clinic at the University hospital of Heraklion, both in Crete, Greece. In June 2018 Dr Saloustros moved to Larissa, Greece as assistant professor of Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Thessaly. 

Dr Saloustros research is primarily focused on breast cancer risk and management, the BRCA1/2 associated breast and ovarian cancers, and the hereditary syndromes that predispose to colorectal cancer. In parallel he studies the genetics of non-BRCA1/2 associated breast cancer in collaboration with the breast cancer association consortium (BCAC).
