Dr Toumpanakis is a Consultant in Gastroenterology & Neuroendocrine Tumours (NET) at the Neuroendocrine Tumour Unit – ENETS Centre of Excellence of Royal Free Hospital, London, UK, since 2007. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College of London, and was awarded as “Top-Teacher of the Year” in 2007, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Dr Toumpanakis graduated from the Medical School-University of Athens, Greece, in 1994, and completed his specialisation in Gastroenterology & Hepatology in 2004, followed by his PhD from the University of Athens in 2007. He has been involved in the area of NETs since 2000. He has presented in several national and international conferences and has published many original papers and reviews. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS), member of the Executive Committee of UK and Ireland Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (UKI-NETS), co-editor of ENETS CME programme, co-author of UKINETS and ENETS Guidelines, as well as a member of the Advisory Board of the “UK NET patients’ foundation”.

Dr Toumpanakis is leading a NET Clinical Research Group and his main research interests include novel NET biomarkers, molecular imaging in NETs, and carcinoid heart disease. In 2014, he organised the First International Conference for “Carcinoid Heart Disease” in London, which led to the development of an International Network of experts, who published the first ever International management guidelines for Carcinoid Heart Disease in March 2017
