Professor Anthony T.C. Chan (MBBS (Lond), MD (CUHK), FRCP (Lond), FRCP (Edin), FRCP (Glas), FHKCP, FHKAM (Medicine)) is Pro-Vice-Chancellor/Vice-President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation Professor of Clinical Oncology, Director of the Sir YK Pao Centre for Cancer, Director of the Hong Kong Cancer Institute, Chief Director of Phase 1 Clinical Trial Centre, Associate Director of the State Key Laboratory of Translational Oncology (CUHK).

Professor Chan graduated from University College London (MBBS) in 1988, and received postgraduate training in Medical Oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital, UK and a M.D. from CUHK in 1998. He is Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London), Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh), Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow), Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Physicians and Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.

Professor Chan is a world leader in clinical and translational research in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. He conducted pivotal studies setting new treatment standards in multimodality approaches in locoregionally advanced disease, developed the clinical applications of the biomarker EBV DNA and pioneered immunotherapeutic and targeted therapeutics in this disease. He has published over 360 peer-reviewed papers, 14 book chapters, and delivered over 140 international lectures. Professor Chan has served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology and the International Advisory Board of Lancet Oncology. He is currently on the Editorial Boards of International Journal of Cancer and Cancer Science and has been Associate Editor of the Annals of Oncology since 2014.

Apart from numerous leadership roles in professional bodies, Professor Chan has served actively in the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) as member as well as chair of Head and Neck Cancer scientific committees for ESMO, ESMO Asia and scientific committees of ESMO Immuno-oncology conferences. He was Co-chair of the scientific committee for the inaugural ESMO Asia in 2015 and delivered the Keynote lecture at the ESMO Asia in 2016.
