Membership is open to eligible professionals working in healthcare or research with an interest and educational background in oncology and/or science. The Membership Committee defines the criteria for the different kinds of categories of Full Members, approved by the ESMO Executive Board. Student Membership is open to medical and basic science students.

Advocates working for a recognised Patient Advocacy Groups are eligible for membership – must provide their updated CV in English and a letter from the Patient Advocacy Group they represent confirming their involvement. Fee includes an online subscription to Annals of Oncology.
If you are a qualified healthcare professional with an interest and educational background in oncology and/or science, but do not fall in to one of the above groups, you may still be eligible for membership. When applying for membership you will need to submit your CV in English for the Membership Committee to review your application.
Undergraduate medical and science students doing their first degree and interested in oncology are welcome to join the society. Membership is free and provides online access only to ESMO benefits. Student Members do not have voting rights.
Medical doctors and basic scientists in training e.g. specialising / sub-specialising in medical oncology or other medical specialisation, registered in a PhD programme, undertaking a residency or fellowship and who are under the age of 40 will be eligible for the in training discounted membership fee. Membership includes online and print subscription to Annals of Oncology.
Emeritus membership is open to medical professionals who have now retired but are interested in keeping up to date with developments in the medical oncology field. Requests for the Emeritus membership discount must be submitted in writing to the membership services team.
We are pleased to offer professionals who are working in low or lower-middle income countries a reduced membership fee of €25 euros; and a fee of €50 to those in upper-middle income countries.
This 'two tier' structure uses the World Bank classification of low, lower-middle and upper-middle countries based on the Gross National Income (GNI) per capita and calculated using the World Bank Atlas method.
