ESMO Workshop: Cancer Patient Advocacy Networks Driving Research

Start date
05 Feb 2016
End date
07 Feb 2016
Location
Brussels, Belgium

This weekend workshop looked at the research potential of cancer patient advocacy networks, the different types of research that patient networks can drive and what it takes to do this successfully. This ESMO Workshop was also an excellent opportunity for networking and exchange between cancer umbrella groups.

The ultimate purpose of health care is to benefit patients. Today, social media allows us to reach patients directly in increasing numbers. This makes it possible to learn from the primary data source – the patients themselves – about what patients need and want, ultimately generating data that helps to target healthcare interventions and provisions.

Cancer patient advocacy networks thereby offer enormous potential as they connect and have access to patients sharing the same condition.
