The Institut Català d'Oncologia is a multicentric (3 hospitals) cancer comprehensive centre, owned by the Catalan Department of Health, which cares for the 40% of cancer patients in Catalonia, and has all of the clinical services of any comprehensive cancer centre, acting in a multidisciplinary way, and also providing activities in planning, evaluating and implementing cancer policies, prevention, cancer education, epidemiology, training and epidemiological, basic, translational, and clinical research.
The chairman of the Board is Dr, Ramón López, and the General Director is Dr. J Esperalba.
The care facilities include clinical services of medical oncology, radiotherapy (including brachytherapy and radiosurgery), haematology, intensive care, continuing care, palliative care, psycho-oncology, social work, rehabilitation, and the non-clinical services include epidemiology, prevention, translational and basic research, clinical research, education and training and administration.
