History

The North Estonia Medical Centre is one of the top health care providers in the country and is situated in the capital Tallinn. It was established on 25th July 2001 by the Republic of Estonia. The hospital has 1150 treatment beds and a catchment area of 500 000 people. The North Estonia Medical Centre consists of seven clinics and 32 specialist centres. It offers medical care in all specialist fields other than pediatrics and obstetrics and serves as a working place for over 500 doctors and 100 residents in training. 

Profile

The Oncology Clinic consists of a hematology, a medical oncology and a radiotherapy department, as well as a day ward and a consultation service. The oncology clinic has an out-patient facility, a day-clinic with 31  positions and three dedicated hospitalization units with 30 hematology, 25 medical oncology, 30 radiotherapy and 3 specialist palliative care beds.

The center provides cancer care from diagnosis to treatment and follow up for all adult tumors.

Palliative and Supportive Care

The palliative care team consists of 3 doctors, 7 nurses, 6 social-care workers, 3 spiritual care workers, 2 psychologists, 1 previous cancer patients as councelors, and a coordinator. The team serves the whole hospital and is in close contact with the long-care unit and home care service providers. The palliative care inpatient beds are situated on the premises of the chemotherapy unit.
