Expertise

Our service is very involved in teaching / training. On one hand, advances in oncology are constant and continuous intra-service training is necessary. On the other hand, the members of the service are committed to participating in the subject of medical and radiotherapy oncology that is carried out in the 5th year of the Medicine Degree. Teaching other doctors, nurses and future doctors is part of our responsibility as specialists. Our service welcomes two specialist registrars per year, who will be guided by two of our faculty, accredited by the Health Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya as resident tutors, Dr. Joan Maurel and Dr. Barbara Adamo.

It also welcomes an average of 5 foreign professionals in training stays, 6 foreign professionals in training visits, and 5 Spanish professionals. These professionals are welcomed by each team depending on the pathology and area of interest they have, including a team focused in early phase clinical trials leaded by Dr Javier García-Corbacho. In addition, many of our physicians are involved in the training of undergraduate Medicine as teachers, they collaborate in the Master of Breast Pathology and Senology, the Master of Biomedicine among others Training that includes participating in the teaching of clinical practices of Students of various Degrees, as well as Postgraduate-Master's degrees and Professional Training.

Facilities

The service has a day hospital care, its own hospitalization ward, 2 hospitalization wards shared with the hematology service and a shared area in the annex building for the outpatient clinic. We also have research specific facilities including a Clinical Trials Unit (Inther Unit) of 450 m2 focused in clinical and translational research where we run more than 350 studies including trials from First in human to phase III, a research pharmacy and four offices for research staff.

In 2014 we created the Laboratory for Translational Genomics and Targeted Therapies in Solid Tumors at IDIBAPS. It is located on the ground floor of the CELLEX Biomedical Research Center integrated into the University of Barcelona, inaugurated in 2013. It is a space equipped with the latest technologies and amenities that respects the original exterior architecture, a centenary building that is architectural heritage of the city. The objective of the lab is precisely to accommodate translational research of ONC through: 1) own research, 2) a molecular screening that allows us to promote clinical research type "early drug development" and 3) molecular analysis in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry, cooperative groups and / or biotechs.
