BC Cancer is looking for a Medical Oncologist to join its Trail Satellite Clinic team, operated by BC Cancer – Kelowna and located in British Columbia’s Interior in the West Kootenay Region. Physicians at the Trail Clinic are eligible to participate in the province’s Rural Retention Program, which pays benefits to physicians working in specific rural communities that are considered isolated.

Reporting to the Department Head of Medical Oncology located at BC Cancer – Kelowna, the Medical Oncologist will be part of a well-established team in Trail, and more broadly, within the provincial structure for oncology care. You will use your extensive experience and qualifications to provide oncology consultation, patient care, teaching, and research, and participate in case discussions through the provincial tumour group support and tumour board conferences. This clinic offers cutting edge therapy in a personalized practice environment, and has support from general practitioners specially trained in oncology and chemotherapy delivery. In the near future, clinical trials enrollment will be supported at the Trail site, increasing research and care opportunities.

Enjoy backcountry adventures in Trail, BC
With a population of just over 7,000, Trail has an abundance of leisure opportunities for outdoors enthusiasts from snowy winter skiing, snowshoeing, and hikes to lounging at the river during the hot summer months. The town offers an interesting balance of opportunities which provide for a wonderful quality of life centred in a region of temperate climate that’s central to an extensive transportation network. Trail’s vibrant local arts and culture scene provides contrast to the plethora of technology, research and development firms, all contributing to a welcoming small-town lifestyle with natural surrounding habitat that doesn’t stop giving the wild nature adventure. Trail is a seven-hour drive to Vancouver, and is located along with Canada-United States border, just north of Spokane, Washington.

As the successful candidate, you will have obtained, or are working towards, Fellowship standing in the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada in Internal Medicine, along with a certificate of Special Competence in Medical Oncology. You must also be eligible for licensing with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia and meet the requirements of credentialing by the Medical Advisory Committee of BC Cancer.
