The ESMO Designated Centres Working Group (DCWG) offers a unique opportunity for medical oncologists interested in palliative care to contribute to multiple ESMO projects and initiatives on the integration of oncology and palliative care services in cancer care.
The DCWG works in the field of organisation, policy, research, education and the development of oncology incentive programmes, with the goal of fully integrating palliative care into medical oncology practice at existing healthcare facilities.
We are currently looking to identify 7 ESMO members to join the Working Group.

Tasks and Responsibilities
Working Group Members are expected to:
- Participate actively in meetings;
- Review the applications (of new or re-accrediting Centres) for the ESMO Designated Centres Accreditation Programme;
- Review applications for the ESMO Palliative Care Fellowships;
- Participate actively in defining the DCWG plans and projects;
- Participate, if requested, as an author/co-author in the DCWG activities/projects;
- Review educational/scientific material produced by other members of the DCWG or invited experts based on their particular area of expertise;
- Represent the DCWG interests at other ESMO or external meetings (on invitation and subject to approval).
Members work on a volunteer basis; the commitment is typically no more than 72 hours per year.
The appointment will be for a mandate of two years (retrospectively from 01.01.2023 until 31.12.2024) and may be extended for an additional two terms.

Appointment requirements
Applicants should:
- Ideally, be a medical doctor practising in the field of medical oncology;
- Have a particular interest in palliative care, and ideally be working in an ESMO Designated Centre;
- Be an ESMO member (in good standing);
- Have good communication skills in English.
The candidate must not
- Currently hold a position in a for-profit healthcare organisation (excluding healthcare professionals in hospitals), pharmaceutical, diagnostic, biotechnology, medical technology and research, commercial medical education company or organisation, whether paid or not (except as a member of a scientific board or advisory board).

The candidate should be able to demonstrate that they:
- Are committed to the strategic goals, values and visions of ESMO;
- Make an active contribution to ESMO’s mission;
- Show unquestionable commitment to the highest level of professional and personal ethics;
- Are willing and able (in terms of time and knowledge) to accept the workload and responsibilities inherent to this position; and
- Are able to create a positive atmosphere for constructive teamwork.
Commitments
The candidate, as a condition of appointment, acknowledges that they:
- Will, if selected, resign/withdraw at the latest by the start of the term of office from any employment or leadership position as an officer or in a body of any international medical professional society, research group, foundation, or charity, whether paid or not, if this position adversely affects ESMO’s interests according to the Executive Board’s evaluation.
