History

Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital & Research Centre ( BMCHRC), is a charitable organisation run by K.G. Kothari Memorial Trust. The institution was established in 1997 with the mission to provide comprehensive care to cancer patients. The goal was to provide state of the art care at an affordable cost. Palliative Care services were introduced in 1998 and within 20 years it has grown into a super-specialty 200 bedded hospital with a leading-edge infrastructure. Patients from Northern and Western India have access to multidisciplinary care at this centre. 

Profile   

BMCHRC offers a collaborative, multidisciplinary treatment strategy for cancer patients. The oncology department consists of medical, surgical and radiation oncology teams. Services include radiotherapy, chemotherapy day care and inpatient unit. The department also actively participates in cancer research and clinical trials. The medical, radiation and surgical oncology departments are closely integrated with the supportive and palliative care team in order to provide seamless care for patients.

The centre offers postgraduate degrees in Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology and Pathology. Approximately 8000 new patients are treated from Rajasthan and neighboring state each year. This organisation also runs various welfare projects for patients who are socially & economically vulnerable of our society “Donate a life” fund (Paediatric blood cancer ). Freedom from cancer” (Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia).

The Centre provides all care, from cancer diagnosis to treatment, and follow-up, for all tumours. Each tumour setting is staffed by oncologists with specific expertise in that area. The centre also actively participates in education, research and clinical trials across both specialties of oncology and palliative care. The following services are provided at our Centre:

Palliative and supportive care

We have a 10 bed inpatient ward, day-care ward, outpatient services and home care services. A team of palliative care physicians, nurse consultants, psychologist and allied health staff (from physiotherapy, dietetics and social work).

The Palliative Care Service is an academic unit. The hospital is accredited by the Indian Association of Palliative Care for the certificate course in the Essentials course in Palliative Care. Ours is the only centre in North India conducting six weeks training for doctors and nurses in palliative care. The service also has a strong focus on research.
