Luís Castelo-Branco (MD, PharmD) obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Algarve, Portugal (2013) and a Pharmaceutical Degree from the University of Coimbra, Portugal (2008). He also obtained a postgraduate degree in immunology from Harvard Medical School, USA (HMX Fundamentals—Immunology, 2019), he gained a postgraduate degree in Clinical Oncology from Nova University, Lisbon, Portugal (2015), and a degree in Pharmacotherapy from Lusófona University, Lisbon, Portugal (2008).
He is currently a resident in Clinical Oncology at the Algarve Medical and University Centre, Faro, Portugal, and he is carrying out his PhD project on the National Public Health School, Lisbon, Portugal, on the real-world assessment of immune checkpoint inhibitors.
Dr Castelo-Branco obtained a fellowship from ESMO in 2018 for a Clinic Unit Visit at Institut Jules Bordet, Brussels under Professor Ahmad Awada’s supervision.
During his training in Clinical Oncology, he was also trained in Tulane Cancer Center, New Orleans, USA in Genito-urinary tumors (2 months, 2019) and Canterbury Integrated Palliative Care Service, Christchurch, New Zealand (2 months, 2019).
Dr Castelo-Branco has also a strong interest in Health Policy, Public Health, Medical Education and associative activities. In this regard, he is co-author of the World Health organization (WHO) report on “The impact of financial crisis on health systems and Health in Europe”. He was founder and President of the Algarve Medical Students Association (2009-2010) and Council President of the Portuguese Youth Pharmacists Association (2008-2011). He was selected as deputy member for the Portuguese Health Parliament in 2016-2017 and co-author within the working group of “Patient Centered Care”. He is mentor and coordinator of the Book “Clinical Skills and Preparation for Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)”, the first-of-its-kind in Portuguese, engaging 102 members from all Portuguese medical schools. He is member of the advisory board for Medicines Policy at the Portuguese Medical Association.
Dr Castelo-Branco is a member of the Portuguese Medical Association, the Portuguese Oncology Society and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
