Dr Hall was educated at Cheltenham Ladies College (St Austins 1975-81) and then trained in medicine at Guy’s Hospital Medical School, London, UK, where she qualified in 1986.
She completed her PhD at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, UK (now CRUK) working on cyclins and kinases.
Currently she works both at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC), Hillingdon Hospital, UK and Wexham Park Hospital, UK. Her main area of interest is gynaecological cancers but she also treats colorectal cancers and germ cell tumours.
She is PI of many clinical trials at MVCC in both gynaecological and colorectal cancers and Chief investigator of the METRO-BIBF and OSCAR trials; she is also planning a number of trials utilising immunotherapy in addition to chemoradiation (anal cancer) and in advanced ovary cancer.
Marcia Hall is a member of the National Cancer Research Institiute (NCRI) Ovarian Cancer subgroup and participant of the Guideline Development Group for Ovarian Cancer convened under the umbrella of NICE. She is a member of the Educational Publications Working Group (Deputy Chair: 2018-2021).
Her professional aims are to care effectively for her patients with cancer, using evidence-based medicine where available and offering research trials of drugs and/or techniques in areas of controversy, or involving new developments.
She is currently Lead Clinician for Research and Development at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.
Outside of medicine (if there is any outside!), I have a great interest in music, I have an ambition to take my grade 8 piano exam at some stage... I have become a very interested and committed gardener with a burgeoning vegetable plot and cutting flower patch. I really enjoy the satisfaction of bringing in the harvest and preparing meals with this when I have the time. I have three almost-grown up children – two at university and one finishing A levels – none interested in medicine which I suspect keeps us sane!
