A palliative care unit was established in 2007 and was included in the oncologic ward until 2012.

Since 2012 a separate palliative care unit exists, in 2019 we were able to expand the unit from initially 5 to 9 beds.

In February 2023 the hospital moved into a new building, including also a new palliative care unit (A56) with a huge outdoor area for our palliative patients.

Symptom control and comprehensive supportive care are treatment objectives throughout the curative, palliative or symptomatical course of treatment. The patient’s needs are evaluated multiprofessionally by nurses and doctors, who are supported by two psycho-oncologists, one art-therapist, five physiotherapists and social workers. The palliative care unit is integrated into a network of all consultants of the entire hospital as needed and in a network of ambulatory palliative care, as well as inpatient and ambulatory hospice care.
