  • The pre-planned secondary analysis of the survey conducted in 2016 to characterise the structure, processes and outcomes of the palliative care programmes at ESMO Designated Centers is now available online in  ESMO Open.


  • The 'critical mass' survey of palliative care programme at ESMO Designated Centres of Integrate Oncology and Palliative Care published in Annals of Oncology 1 September 2017
  • ESMO E-Learning: Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care: an Update, authors Florian Strasser and Rita Canario
  • 4th ESMO Designated Centres Community Session and Awards during ESMO 2017, Madrid, Spain


  • ESMO Designated Centres critical mass survey conducted in 2016 to study the characteristics and level of integration of the centres and accepted as an abstract and presented as a poster discussion during the ESMO 2016 Congress on 8 October 2016.
  • 3rd ESMO Designated Centres Community Session and Awards during ESMO 2016, Copenhagen, Denmark








  • Published in the Annals of Oncology: European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Programme for the Integration of Oncology and Palliative Care: a 5-year review of the Designated Centres’ incentive programme
  • Revision of the 13 criteria for the ESMO Designated Centres of Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care programme


  • Survey on opioid drugs
  • Oncologist/Patient communication survey. The survey was designed to evaluate the important issue of communication between oncologists and patients with advanced cancer. It evaluated the communication practices between physicians and patient and the attitudes impacting communication dynamics and the decision-making process within the setting of life-threatening illness. Factors that impact communication styles and attitudes towards communication were also identified, taking into account the variables of geography, age, sexual experience and education.
