01 Mar 2016
Dr. Holbrook Kohrt

Dr. Holbrook Kohrt was an esteemed member of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and an Associate Editor in Cancer Immunotherapy for the ESMO flagship journal Annals of Oncology. He wrote three patient guides on acute myeloid leukaemia, chronic myeloid leukaemia and follicular lymphoma, part of a collaborative effort between ESMO and the Anticancer Fund.

It is with great sadness that the oncology community learned of the recent death of Dr. Kohrt (1977 - 2016). His work left a profound mark in the immuno-oncology field. We extend our condolences to his family, friends and those colleagues who had the honour of working with him. ESMO is committed to continuing his legacy by advancing the field of oncology to the ultimate benefit for all cancer patients. We will remember Dr. Kohrt as a talented, passionate and noble human being and a valued member of our society.

Dr. Kohrt was an Assistant Professor at Stanford Cancer Institute, and investigated novel therapeutic strategies to enhance anti-tumour immunity. He attended Stanford University Medical School as the Baxter Foundation Scholar, Howard Hughes Scholar, and was an American Society of Hematology Research Fellow. Dr. Kohrt trained in Internal Medicine at Stanford University through the Clinical Investigator Pathway and completed a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Stanford with a research focus on preclinical models of novel immunomodulatory antibodies. He received his PhD in Clinical Trial Design and Tumor Immunology from Stanford.
