ESMO: Tell us a bit about your career so far

Guillem: I conducted my residency in Medical Oncology at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital under the supervision of José Baselga MD, PhD. Then I joined the Phase 1 and Early Drug Development Division of this Hospital to conduct a 3 year fellowship program in early drug development. Afterwards I finally start working as a staff member in the Gastrointestinal Malignancies Division leaded by Josep Tabernero MD, PhD.

What is your current activity?

I am focused on developing new therapeutic strategies for chemo-refractory CRC.

What motivates you?

My motivation is to make life better for CRC patients.

Why did you choose to become a medical oncologist?

I chose medical oncology because I found it very complete medical speciality given the strength of patient-doctor relationships on one hand, and the intense translational potential in the other.

What does your involvement with ESMO and the Young Oncologists Committee (YOC) mean to you?

ESMO YOC brings me the opportunity to expand my work and makes the achievement of my aims more feasible.

Do you have some good advice you would like to share with your international colleagues?

Networking is the only way to progress in oncology, ESMO is a catalyser in this regard and YOC the perfect platform for interacting with peers.
