Job Title

Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology

Main duties

  • The post holder is required to hold specialist accreditation in Oncology
  • Multidisciplinary team working is a key component of the working in the department.
  • To work alongside colleagues across the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a high quality and safe service for patients is maintained at all times.
  • To provide cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
  • To participate in the on-call rota to provide continuous consultant cover to HUG.
  • To ensure that proper clinical records are made and maintained.
  • To ensure that all in-patients are regularly reviewed and appropriate management plans are in place for all patients.
  • To attend relevant multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • To undertake continuing medical education facilitated by funded study leave.
  • To participate in clinical audit, including supporting junior medical staff with their audit programmes and to maintain proper clinical records for this purpose.
  • To provide training for medical and non-medical staff in the department and teaching sessions for other hospital staff.
  • To participate in department staff appraisals as appropriate.
  • To provide continuing responsibility for patients in the post holder’s charge and in partnership with colleagues across the hospital to ensure the proper function of the department and hospital.
  • To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of outpatient clinics.
  • To actively participate in clinical trials


  • Pursuing a career in oncology in Hospital
  • Specialist in Medical Oncology
  • Basic Life Support Certificate (in-house training offered)
  • Experience in the management of acute medical emergencies and practical interventions
  • Experience in general oncology management including treatment of oncological emergencies and practical interventions
  • Have a good experience and knowledge of cancer clinical trial
  • Good communications skills, ability to work as part of a team, initiative and decision making ability
  • Very good level of oral and written French language. (C1)

This is a 1 year fixed term contract to begin with. Further extensions are highly likely
