After completing his
undergraduate and postgraduate (MD, Internal Medicine) medical training (with
honours) from the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical
College Hospital,
Jaipur, Dr. Malhotra completed two years of medical oncology fellowship from
the Tata Memorial
Cancer Center,
Bombay (largest tertiary cancer care center in Asia). Upon returning to SMS Medical
College, Jaipur, he set
up the Leukaemia Lymphoma Clinic along with the division of Medical Oncology in
the Department of Medicine.
Dr. Hemant Malhotra is currently an Associate Professor
of Medicine and Head of the Division for Medical Oncology at the SMS Medical
College Hospital,
Jaipur. His department intends to start a Bone Marrow Transplantation program
in the very near future. Dr. Hemant Malhotra
has also completed the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) fellowship at
the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
(MSKCC), New York and the Varoon Mahajan
Fellowship at the New York Hospital, Cornell
Medial Center, NY.
Dr. Hemant Malhotra delivered
lectures at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, NY and Emory School of Medicine,
Atlanta. His areas of interest include haematological
malignancies, especially CML, lung cancer, breast cancer, palliative care in
oncology and clinical trials in oncology. Dr. Hemant Malhotra is especially interested
in clinical trials in oncology and is the principal investigator for many
international and national oncology trials. He is also a trainer for Good Clinical Practice
(GCP) and Joint Secretary for the Ethics Committee of his institution.
Dr. Hemant Malhotra
is one of the founder members of the Indian Cooperative Oncology Network (ICON)
and is head of the haematological malignancy clinical trial section of the
ICON. He passed the ESMO certification examination at the Athens Conference in
November 1998 and recertified through the ESMO-MORA program in 2006. He
attended the first meeting of the ESMO Developing Countries Task Force in
Lugano and organized an ESMO Palliative Care Workshop in Jaipur in 2006.
