Dr. Richard Greil
spent his medical education at the university hospital in Innsbruck where he
was also board-certified for Hematology and Medical Oncology in 1995.
In 1992 he received his habilitation and from 1996 he served
as Deputy Director for the Department of Hematology and Onoclogy at the University
of Innsbruck. In 2001 he was appointed Director of the Tyrolean Cancer Research
Institute.
In 2004 he was appointed full professor and chair of the 3rd
Medical Department with Haematology and Medical Oncology at the newly founded
Private Medical University Hospital in Salzburg as well as Director of the
Laboratory of Molecular and Immunological Cancer Research in Salzburg. The
primary areas of research involved lymph proliferative disorders like chronic
lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and lymphomas both in terms of translational
sciences as well as clinical research, breast cancer and gastrointestinal
cancer. As a head of the AGMT (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Medikamentöse Tumortherapie)
and vice-president of the ABCSG (Austrian Breast and Colon Cancer Study Group)
he is also heavily interested in promoting academic oncologic research in
Austria.
For ESMO, he is a member of the hematology and supportive
care group, participating in the preparation of ESMO's Clinical Recommendations
(eg. hematopoietic growth factors, erythropoietin's, etc) and co-editor of the ESMO
Handbook of Principles of Translational Research. Dr. Richad Greil is also
serving as a member of the Bioethics Committee of the Chancellor of the
Republic of Austria.
The publication record comprises 120 peer-reviewed
publications with an impact factor more than 600, and many book chapters and
other publications.
