National Representatives Committee The National Representatives (NR) Committee is composed of both national and regional representatives.
As the Society's spokespersons in their respective countries, National and Regional Representatives act as ambassadors of ESMO's mission, sharing the same values and pursuing the same objectives, in the joint effort to benefit the specialty of medical oncology on a national as well as international level.
Activities and responsibilities
- Being the liaison between ESMO and the country/region they represent, when addressing politicians, health authorities, media, patient advocacy groups
- Providing national contact information useful for ESMO activities
- Lobbying for the recognition of medical oncology as a specialty, both in their country and at a European level
- Promoting ESMO membership within their national oncology societies
- Supporting and encouraging participation in ESMO events and activities
- Facilitating the dissemination of ESMO knowledge
- Providing an annual report on the status of oncology in their country
- Proposing the adoption of ESMO Clinical Recommendations where national guidelines do not exist
Structure
- One member for each European country, currently 46, and
- One member for each major geographical region, currently 12
- Only ESMO Full members can serve
- Members elected by ESMO Full and Junior members in the country or region
- Members elected for a maximum of two 3-year terms
- Represented on the Board of Directors by a Steering Committee composed of three NR serving for a maximum of two 3-year terms
