Examination Working Group

The ESMO Examination Working Group is a satellite of the Educational Steering Committee. It is in charge of preparing the ESMO Examination which certifies that a medical oncologist possesses the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for providing care to cancer patients.

Activities and responsibilities

  • Selecting exam questions
  • Supervising exam sessions
  • Analyzing exam results
  • Awarding the ESMO certificate of medical oncology to successful participants

Structure

Group of experts in medical oncology, flexible in size, based on the workload for the preparation of the examination questions

Major achievements

2005 Possibility to arrange parallel sessions in regions outside of Europe
2005 Belgium Society of Medical Oncology joins the German Society AIO and requires ESMO Examination for Full society membership
2004 Slovenia joins Switzerland and Germany in recognizing ESMO Exam as national oncology examination
2002 Exam Award
2000 180 participants over five (5) simultaneous sessions in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Bern, Buenos Aires and Brazil
1999 First Exam session, London, United Kingdom
