Policies and position papers
Policies are plans to guide decisions and actions.ESMO has developed different types of policies:
- internal policies, that regulate ESMO events, activities, partnerships and relations with external collaborators
- scientific and ad hoc policies, that help set global standards in the field of oncology
Position papers (or statements) are official statements
made by an organization on a particular topic. Position statements offer
the following advantages:
- Wide dissemination to increase awareness
- Written material, which can be used during the entire decision-making process, since
most legislative processes take more than one year to complete, and/or which
can be promoted by those sharing the same views, helping to form a coordinated
approach between different stakeholders
