The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) is the leading European professional organization for medical oncology, with a special focus on a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. 

The mission of the Society to disseminate knowledge to the healthcare professionals, as well as cancer patients and the public, is facilitated through its outstanding scientific and educational activities, events, publications, and services. ESMO's global community unites oncology professionals with cancer patients and their families. It also includes political, media and industry representatives, who contribute through supporting healthcare legislation, increasing awareness and sponsorships. Evaluation: emphasizing quality

ESMO promotes accreditation programs to evaluate the level of knowledge, competence and skills required to be recognized as a quality medical oncology practitioner. The Society also establishes minimum standard criteria for cancer care as well as specialized units in cancer centers.
