ESMO FAMILY SITES
Patient seminar
The Patient Seminars are educational and community-building meetings fulfilling one of ESMO’s objectives – to disseminate knowledge to cancer patients, their family members and caregivers, as well as to patient groups and cancer leagues. The ultimate goal of such meetings is that of promoting equal access to optimal cancer treatment and care.
The Patient Seminars represent an important occasion for:
- Cancer patients and families to interact and communicate with doctors and other patients
- Oncologists to collect feedback directly from patients
- Representatives of both the scientific and clinical world, on one side, and of cancer leagues and patients advocacy groups, on the other, to discuss and build partnerships and work towards constantly improving the quality of cancer care
The Patient Seminars follow a format which encourages direct interaction and communication between patients and families, oncologists, and healthcare professionals, aiming at having discussions which are clearly understandable to a non-scientific audience.
All parties involved have the opportunity to share their knowledge and personal experiences of living with cancer, and discuss the current challenges and future directions of cancer research and methods of treatment.
