Applications open online until 26 February 2010 for ACORD 2010 – the Australia & Asia Pacific Clinical Oncology Research Development Workshop
12-17 September 2010 on the Sunshine Coast, Australia
As in previous years, ESMO is pleased to continue its support of the ACORD Workshop 2010. ESMO Faculty join with other world renowned experts to provide participants with hands-on collaboration and guidance during an intensive week-long clinical trials training program. Health professionals with training in medical, radiation, surgical and psycho-oncology, and/or palliative care, pharmacology and allied health disciplines are invited to apply and up to sixty participants will be selected through a competitive application process. Fellowships covering fees, travel expenses, accommodation and meals are available to successful applicants.
The Workshop’s goals include:
- Imparting principles of good clinical trial design which yield clear results to apply both in the clinic and in future research projects and
- Exposing participants to the full spectrum of challenges in clinical research, from conventional antineoplastic agents and multidisciplinary treatment regimens to biological therapy.
The Workshop’s program is composed of:
- A variety of educational components to aid in successful protocol design
- Development sessions where participants present and discuss their clinical trial proposal in detail
- Extensive session topics including areas such as global cancer research, principles of clinical trials design, phase I-III trials, basic biostatistics, epidemiology, meta-analysis and systematic review
With an international focus, past Workshop participants have come from India, Nepal, Malaysia, China, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Iran, Bangladesh, Philippines, Pakistan, Korea, United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia and New Zealand.
The ACORD Committee, Chaired by Associate Professor Martin Stockler, is proud to have the continuing support of long-term project partners like ESMO, as well as the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Medical Oncology Group of Australia, the Cancer Council of Australia and the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (COSA). The Program is also supported by a number of key Australian professional organisations including, the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Faculty of Radiation Oncology.
