Towards Better Cancer Care in Europe: The MOSES Survey on the Status of Medical Oncology
European Parliament, Brussels, 15 October 2008
The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and MEPs Dr Adamos Adamou, Prof Antonios Trakatellis and Dr Irena Belohorská hosted a keynote debate on improving cancer care in Europe in the European Parliament on the afternoon of 15 October.
The aim of this debate was to highlight the crucial role played by multidisciplinary teams, and especially the key role of medical oncologists in the fight against cancer in Europe. The results of the third edition of MOSES - the Medical Oncology Status in Europe Survey - drove panel discussions to cover aspects as the use of multidisciplinary teams in cancer care, the importance of training in the administration of drugs and barriers to cross-border cancer care:
- Multidisciplinary Care and Teams – An integrated approach to fighting cancer
- Training and Safe Treatment – Safe use of modern medicines requires education
- Consistent Cancer Care Across Borders – A clear legal framework benefits patients and professionals
Three high-level panels featured representatives from the European Commission, patient groups, health professional organisations, and ESMO.
This event was supported by unrestricted educational grants from Pfizer, Merck Serono and Roche.
