Application review process
Applications (with the exception of the Palliative Care Fellowship) are reviewed by the Fellowship and Award Committee which comprises leaders in the fields of medical, radiation, or surgical oncology as well as basic scientists participating in cancer research. The committee will select the recipients after evaluating and scoring all aspects of the application.
The Committee will consider the following criteria when reviewing applications and determining funding decisions:
Translational and Clinical Research Fellowships
- The extent and level of previous education (CV)
- Motivation letter
- Other professional training and publications
- Research project
- Quality of the application, overall strategy, methodology, and proposed analyses of the research data as well as and appropriateness to accomplish the specific aims within the grant term. Feasibility of the project given the time frame and the budget
George Mathé Translational Research Fellowship
- The extent and level of previous education (CV)
- Motivation letter
- Other professional training and publications
- Research project and host institute
- Quality of the application, overall strategy, methodology, and proposed analyses of the research data as well as and appropriateness to accomplish the specific aims within the grant term. Feasibility of the project given the time frame and the budget
Clinical Unit Visits Fellowships
- The extent and level of previous education (CV)
- Motivation letter
- Other professional training
- Quality of the application
- How the acquired information and knowledge will be used in the home institute
Translational Research Unit Visit Fellowships (TRU)
- The extent and level of previous education (CV)
- Motivation letter
- Candidates that have not had laboratory experience as the TRU visit is an introduction to Translational Research
- Quality of the application
- How the acquired information and knowledge will be used in the home institute
Palliative Care Fellowship
Applications for the Palliative Care Fellowship are reviewed by the ESMO Palliative Care Working Group, which comprises experts in the field of supportive and palliative care. The working group will select the recipients after evaluating and scoring all aspects of the applications.
- The extent and level of previous education (CV)
- Motivation letter
- Other professional training
- Quality of the application
- How the acquired information and knowledge will be used in the home institute
The Committee will evaluate each applicant taking into consideration the above irrespective of race, sex, nationality, or religious/political views.
